The Association for Computing Machinery – UP Student Chapter congratulates the 10 teams that represented the University during the 2009 ACM ICPC Asia Manila Regional Onsite Contest held last Oct. 22-23, 2009, at the Ateneo de Manila University.

The team of Marte Raphael Soliza, Kevin Charles Atienza, and John Eddie Ayson (Mga SOGO Ni E.T.) was declared the champion, beating 54 other teams from Vietnam, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the Philippines. They solved all 10 problems in 606 minutes (including time penalties).

Meanwhile, the team of Joseph Jesneil Montalbo (Chairperson of the UP ACM), Jose Plutarco Bawagan, and Luke Wicent Sy was ranked fifth among all participants and second among the Philippine teams, edging the following team by only 34 minutes.

The rest of the UPD teams placed 10th, 12th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th, 26th, and 27th.

Because of their success, Soliza, Atienza, and Ayson are eligible to participate and compete in the 2010 ACM/ICPC World Finals, which will be held in February 2010 at Hanbin University, China. This will be the third time that the country will be represented in the prestigious programming tilt, and the first time for the University.
