The World Usability Day 2007 Manila was held last November 8 at the UP ITTC. It was a usability talk on Web 2.0 that was delivered by Regnard Raquedan of the Adobe User Group (AUG). The participants were the students from the UP ITTC and UP ACM. At the end of the talk was an open forum where there was a raffle of books on Flash and web development solutions and some freebies.

In case you missed the event, here’s a copy of the presentation by Mr. Regnard Raquedan:
Yesterday, we went to La Salle Canlubang ( Laguna ) for the First Philippine National Inter-Collegiate Programming Competition (Philippine ICPC 2007) in the country. It was organized by the Computing Society of the Philippines ( CSP ) and hosted by the said school. This competition is an ACM International sanctioned event for the ACM ICPC held every year. For the past 5 years, a Regional ACM ICPC is held here in Manila, but for this year it is hosted by the National University of Singapore. Unlike the previous years when joining ICPC will only cost teams the registration fees, this time aspiring World Finalists will also need plane tickets to Singapore. The 1st place of yesterday’s competition is assured a spot in the Asia Regional Finals in Singapore c/o CSP.
Fifty teams from all over the country went to La Salle Canlubang to get a chance to get a free ride to Singapore. But the team that took home the golden chalise was the UP Fighting Morons (their team name) consisting of Marte Raphael Soliza ( I call him Lord Marte )- 4th year, Ralph Rainier Pineda - 1st year and Reginald Eli Deinla - 3rd year answering 5 out of the 6 problems! Ateneo got the second place, UP Los Banos got the 3rd, La Salle Taft was the 4th and my team with James Wyson and Ralph Justin Arce got the 5th place. All of these teams solved 3 problems each. I don’t know the rest but another group from UP Diliman entered the Top Ten, that’s the team of Wigi Vei Oliveros, John Kristofferson Sanchez and Pio Ryan Lumongsod.

This year’s Y4iT was held at the SM North Edsa in Cinemas 9-12. As usual, it was the biggest IT event of the year again with an estimated 15,000 attendees. In cooperation with the UP ITTC, UP student organizations and other schools, UP ACM provided over 50+ members that volunteered as ushers, exhibitors, kits & IDs staff, and program technical staff. Teamwork at its best!
