“We’re not going to play games; we’re going to make ‘em.” This is what Jason Masipiqueña, former SIG’s Head for Gaming, had said early on. At UP ACM, we are out to further our knowledge in the best means possible. One of the hottest and most profitable industries today belongs to gaming and graphics design, and the Chapter aims to bring that environment into the UP Diliman atmosphere. Starting with the Flash and Photoshop KISSes, to be followed by Python over SDL sessions in the near future, and with no plans of stopping there, this SIG is seriously bent on creating its very own game, to be entered even in the local game development competition, UGotGame.
The Java SIG isn’t just another cup of coffee. It aims to serve the UP community with the use Java and Java-related Technologies. It is also committed to provide members with up-to-date information on the Java Language and Java Development Tools to equip them with knowledge essential for creating web applications. The SIG is now pursuing the development of Computerized Network-Based Dormitory Manager (CoNDorM) to aid the management of UP dormitories.
As the sole organization bearing the name of ACM in the University, UP ACM has chosen to provide a venue for students interested in joining the University’s delegation to the annual ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest, starting with the Regional Finals in Manila, then working upward to the World Finals. Members shall undergo training under the guidance of coaches from the Department of Computer Science.
