Happy 10th Birthday, Java Technology

Happy birthday Java! Wait, it’s Duke’s birthday too! Happy birthday as well!

Java Technology Turns Ten

Anyway, anniversary might have been the correct term, because Java was actually started in 1990 by James Gosling and two other guys (sorry forgot the names). It was conceived a year later by a secret 13-man “green team.” They named the technology Oak, named after the tree outside Gosling’s window. The first working demo appeared in the StarSeven device where Duke first appeared. Four years later, during the time when Turbo Pascal was being used for CS11 at our Computer Science department, Java was officially launched.
