The Association for Computing Machinery – UP Student Chapter is now accepting applicants for the academic year of 2009-2010!

You can fill up the application form found at http://tr.im/appform
and submit the following requirements at ROOM 300, DCS Building (Eng’g Library 2).

Requirements:

- 1×1 ID pic (3 pcs)
- Photocopy of Form 5 with ID (3pcs)
- Php 100 application fee.

Please also attend the applicant’s orientation on July 1, 2009 (Wed), 5:30 PM at the DCS Building (Eng’g Library 2)

Food will be served!

Good news!

UP ACM’s Membership Renewal Form is now available online! Fill-up the application form found at http://tr.im/appform and submit the following requirements:

3 1×1 ID Picture
3 Certified True Copy of Form 5 with ID
Php 100 Renewal/Application Fee

You may submit the following requirements to any of the council members (Jayjay, Jhoijhoi, Ruzette, Gian, Bea, Manica, Roseann) or to the vice-head and secretary of the membership committee (Mark Anthony Morada, Cyrod John Domingo).

Hurry! We’d like to add you to the list of members for the org recognition! Submit them before June 28, 2009.

UP ACM Executive Council 2009-2010

The UP ACM Executive Council election was held from March 16-18, 2009. The 7 individuals with the highest number of votes (out of 16 candidates) were declared as the new members of the Executive Council. An internal election among the winners was then held today to determine the specific positions of each Council member. The results are as follows:

Chairperson: Joseph Jesneil Montalbo (53 member votes)
Vice-Chairperson/Membership Head: Ruzette Tanyag (64 votes)
Secretary/Records Head: Manica Dimaiwat (26 votes)
Treasurer/Finance Head: Gian Paolo Samson (63 votes)
Education Head: Rose Ann Sale (48 votes)
Externals Head: Crystal Beatrice Camarao (42 votes)
Logistics Head: Jhoirene Clemente (33 votes)

Voter turnout during Executive Council election: 50.34% or 74 out of 147 voters

weDesign: Website Design for High School Students

weDesign Guidelines:

  1. Eligibility. All interested participant must: (a) be a High School Student residing in the Philippines; (b) be currently enrolled in any high schools within the Philippines; (c) be familiar with any of the following technologies: (X)HTML, CSS, Javascript.
  2. Team. Each team may consist of at most two (2) participants. A school may form at most two (2) teams.
  3. Participant. Each participant cannot be a member of another team.
  4. Registration. All interested schools may submit a Pre-registration form online or submit the attached Pre-Registration form via Fax. Online Pre-Registration form can be found on http://weDesign.upacm.org/
  5. Contest Proper PREPARATION. Prepare the necessary image files needed for the web design creation. Use of copyrighted material is discouraged, unless the contestant has proper authorization from the copyright holder. Please show proof on the day of the event.
  6. Contest Proper Mechanics.
    1. Teams are allowed to use any of the following software in the creation process:
      1. GEdit, Notepad any text editor
      2. GIMP
    2. Teams are limited to the following technologies:
      1. (X)HTML
      2. CSS
      3. Javascript
      4. JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP
    3. The contest will run for three (3) hours only.
  7. Judging. The web designs submitted are judged with the following criteria: (1) Ease of Navigation; (2) Creativity and User Appeal; (3) Usability; (4) Theme Adherence. Websites will be judged using Mozilla Firefox 3 on Ubuntu.
  8. Substitution of Participants. The names of the participants and substitutes must be submitted three days prior to the event.
  9. Winners. Winners are chosen by the contest’s judges and/or event’s sponsors. The names and schools of the winners will be announced after the judging period.
  10. Timeline of Events.
    February 05, 2009: Start of Registration Period
    February 16, 2009: End of Registration Period
    February 20, 2009: Event Proper:
    8:00 am – 8:30 am : Registration
    8:30 am – 11:30 am: Contest Proper
    1:00 pm : Awarding
  11. Theme. The theme for the event is: “Education in the 21st Century – What schools are doing with technology.
